Week 7 comprised of creating a poster-style pitch to describe our topic and project direction. The goal was to help clarify where we're at and better identify the direction moving forward. Additionally we were prompted with the task of adding an interactive component.
WEEK 7
POSTER
THE MESSAGE
We were directed to create a poster that was readable at 3 different distances – 20, 10, and 2 feet away.

I started by focusing on the messages I wanted to convey. This process allowed me to organize all of my messaging into a sort of matrix while developing a strong hook and narrative.
I then found an old map of central Iowa on Flickr by user @davecito. I used this as a starting point in creating the visuals.

DESIGN
INITIAL FINDINGS
I chose to give viewers a call to action to write on the poster directly or place small sticky notes that were provided. The hope was that I would be given feedback on whether this idea excites my peers and what should be changed or considered going forward.

The initial findings have admittedly not been super insightful. Words like, "Punk!" and "Great job!" were written, which are nice, but don't provide feedback. I was given the advice to write my own critique first to give others a better starting point.

INTERACTION

REFLECTION
I felt really inspired by a couple of the other posters that were created that included more visual elements to explain their project rather than written text. Based on the description of the assignment, I thought the focus was on the textual explanation of the project, but I honestly think some of the more visual posters were even more effective at pitching their ideas and creating excitement around their topics.

Despite this, I received valuable feedback on both improvements I could have made to my own poster and how to improve interactivity. It helped me definitively determine the direction of my topic and identify clear messaging in promotion moving forward.
