IOWA NATURAL HERITAGE FOUNDATION: EDITORIAL DESIGN

Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation (INHF) is a nonprofit organization that aims to preserve and protect Iowa's natural land, water, and wildlife through conservation, education, and advocacy efforts. I interned with this organization for 18 months, and during that time I learned valuable information about Iowa's native plants, wildlife, and landscapes. Through the program I designed many, many advertising and marketing materials, spreads for their magazine (Iowa Natural Heritage), and developed my scientific illustration and photography skills.

Many of my editorial designs had a similar process in sketching potential layouts, using framed shapes as placeholders, and creating illustrations and elements for use in visual communication for each of the articles. Additionally, I wrote a couple of the articles – the Get Outdoors pieces of the Summer '24 and Fall '24 issues.

I have so much more to share as I continue to work with INHF on a part time basis to assist them in achieving their design needs. They are a testament to how working relationships can build and evolve over time – design doesn't stop at the end of a single project, and there is always more work to do!
