IOWA PEACE NETWORK: LOGO + VISUAL IDENTITY
Iowa Peace Network is a small nonprofit located in the heart of Des Moines. Through the means of building community between religious organizations and reception of generous donations, IPN provides think pieces, advocacy, and resources to the communities in which it serves. They release a quarterly journal, update their website regularly, and organize community events to spread messages of peace and justice. I wanted to contribute to their work of informing the public and spreading peace by providing them with a digital identity, which they did not have any established prior.

I began by researching their organization and similar ones across the country. I knew they wanted a clean, minimalistic, and corporate design style as not to distract from their important messages and work. They were already using green, red, and blue heavily in the designs they put out themselves, so I knew I wanted to work these colors into my design in a different way. They informed me that they wanted a dove and a flower to be a t the heart of their logo. This was a challenge, as it could have made them blend into the rest of the peace related organizations, so I knew I had to somehow set them apart.

I chose to represent the organization through odd shapes that together create both the shape of a dove and an abstract flower design. I wanted to provide an array of colors and a couple of contrasting free-for-commercial-use typefaces that allow them to communicate complex issues more effectively. Through these shapes, a wide variety of patterns and additional designs can be created to help aesthetically tell their story and further their cause.

IPN expressed their gratitude for my work in creating an visual identity and brand system that is easy to use. They are already looking forward to replacing their letterhead and implementing some branded merchandise! This project was the result of an assignment for my 5th graphic design studio.
